Jason Collins is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, his family said in a statement on Thursday.
“Jason and his family welcome your support and prayers and kindly ask for privacy as they dedicate their attention to Jason’s health and well-being,” released Collin’s family in a statement.
Collins, who was the NBA’s first openly gay player, now serves as an ambassador for the league.
Collins had a 13-year career that included the Nets, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Hawks, Celtics, and Wizards before retiring in 2014.
