Manchester United have made an improved offer to Brentford in the hope it will be sufficient to break the impasse over a deal for Bryan Mbeumo.

United have held an interest in the 25-year-old for much of the off-season but have, so far, failed to meet the Bees’ valuation of a player who has 12 months remaining on his contract, although Brentford do have the option for a further year.

Bids of £55million and £62.5m have been rebuffed by the London club, even though Mbeumo has made it clear to both clubs, and other interested parties such as Tottenham, that he has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

United have gone back in with a third bid of £70m today, according to transfer experts David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, in the hope the Cameroon winger will finally be allowed to discuss terms.

Mbeumo emerged as Premier League star

Mbeumo has been one of the most consistent offensive players in the Premier League since joining Brentford from Troyes in 2019. He scored 20 goals and added eight assists as Brentford finished in 10th place last season.

They have since lost boss Thomas Frank to Spurs, as well as captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and goalkeeper Mark Flekken to Bayer Leverkusen.

Caoimhin Keller has joined as Flekken’s replacement while England midfielder Jordan Henderson’s move to the Gtech Community Stadium was announced earlier this week.

If Mbeumo does go, Brentford will be determined to keep hold of Yoane Wissa, who was today linked with Newcastle.
