The Centre for Economic Strategy cites data from the Institute of Demography showing that about 700,000 men aged 18 to 22 live in Ukraine. Most of them are students, so only 200,000 to 300,000 from this group are part of the labour market, even taking into account those who combine studying with work.

Hlib Vyshlinsky, Executive Director of CES, notes that when compared to the total economically active population — about 13 million people — young men make up only 2–3%.

«Even if they leave en masse, there will be no significant blow to the economy. The main risk is that some unskilled or low-skilled young workers might take advantage of the opportunity to go abroad and work there», says Vyshlinsky.
