Chelsea and Manchester City were the two English sides among the 32 teams taking part in the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup.

The Blues beat Palmeiras to win the competition in 2021 and had been runners-up in 2012, losing to Corinthians in the final.

The competition was held in a seven-team format on both of those occasions but the expanded version lasted almost a month.

Chelsea Club World Cup knockout stage path

Chelsea advanced to a last-16 match against Benfica, who beat Bayern Munich on Matchday 3 to win Group C.

Enzo Maresca’s team won that game 4-1 on Saturday, June 28 in Charlotte, setting up a quarter-final which they won 2-1 against Palmeiras on Saturday, July 5 in Philadelphia.

They won their semi-final against Fluminense in New Jersey to set up a final against Paris Saint-Germain.

The final was also in New Jersey on Sunday, July 13.
