A new, state-of-the-art “weapon” against organized drug trafficking networks, particularly those transporting loads in containers, is being acquired by the Hellenic Police through European programs, as the procurement of specialized technical equipment has been approved and funded to enhance the technical capabilities of the Drug Enforcement Sub-Directorate of the Organized Crime Combat Directorate.
As announced by the Hellenic Police Headquarters, the project was approved and funded under the “Union Anti-Fraud Programme (EUAF)” of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and falls under the thematic axis “Investigation and surveillance equipment and methods.”
The main objective of the project, through the procurement of specialized technical equipment, is to enhance the technical capabilities of the Drug Enforcement Directorate of the Organized Crime Combat Directorate, but it will also be used in collaboration with other relevant services of the Hellenic Police, as well as public services of the country such as Customs and Port Authorities during investigations of criminal network activities at the National, European, and International levels.
The aim is to address cross-border threats, particularly those carried out using containers to infiltrate the European Union through ports, especially the largest ports in the country, such as Piraeus and Thessaloniki.
It is noted that the project was funded by the European Union, specifically by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), with an 80% European contribution and a 20% National contribution. (18/11/25)
