Rangers’ Europa League campaign looks destined to end in the league phase stage following their latest defeat, while Celtic were also beaten.

Rangers are on the brink of exiting the Europa League following a 2-1 loss to Ferencvaros.

Danny Rohl’s side have still yet to win in the league phase and their latest defeat let them six points adrift of the qualification spots for the knockout rounds with two games to play.

Bojan Miovski’s spectacular volley in the 27th minute gave Rangers the lead, but they were pegged back in first-half stoppage time by Bence Otvos’ deflected effort.

Ferencvaros, managed by former Celtic striker Robbie Keane, sealed the points in Barnabas Varga headed Callum O’Dowda’s left-wing cross. The Hungarian side are through to the knockout rounds after moving on to 14 points.

Celtic sit just inside the top 24 but are still waiting for their first win under Wilfried Nancy after they were beaten 3-0 at home by Roma.

An early Liam Scales own goal and a double from Evan Ferguson clinched victory for Roma, as Nancy became the first Celtic manager to lose his first two matches.

There was better fortune for the English sides in the Europa League, as Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest each claimed victories.

Villa are through to the knockout rounds after staying joint-top of the table with a 2-1 win over Basel. They are level on 15 points with Lyon, who beat Go Ahead Eagles 2-1, and Midtjylland, 1-0 victors against Genk.

    Elsewhere in the Europa League

Former Manchester United forward Antony was on target as Real Betis secured their progression to the knockouts with a 3-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb. Freiburg are also through after a 1-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg, while Portuguese sides Braga and Porto all but sealed their progression by beating Nice and Malmo respectively.

Talisa scored a hat-trick as Fenerbahce won 4-0 away at Brann. Stuttgart were 4-1 winners over Maccabi Tel-Aviv and there were seven goals shared in the game of the night between FCSB and Feyenoord.

Florin Tănase settled the game in the 95th minute as FCSB claimed a 4-3 win in Bucharest to move a point shy of the qualification spots and leave Feyenoord in a desperate position on three points.
