A plane flying from Mexico has crashed in Galveston, Texas, as the aircraft was attempting to land in difficult and foggy conditions.

GALVESTON, Texas — Six people were killed after a plane crashed near the causeway in Galveston County, Texas on Monday as foggy conditions affected the area.

The aircraft was carrying eight people, and two people were rescued. A person that was reported missing was found dead on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to six.

The Mexican Navy confirmed that the plane, which originated from Mexico, experienced an incident during its approach into Galveston.

The FOX Forecast Center said visibility was down to a half-mile in the area of the crash while there was a Dense Fog Advisory in effect.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Galveston Police Department.

The Department of Public Safety said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were also called in.

People were asked to avoid the area to allow emergency responders to work safely and efficiently.

It’s unknown if the crash was caused by the foggy conditions. The official cause remains under investigation.
