The New Orleans Pelicans wanted to retain James Borrego on the coaching staff over the summer in case the team decided to part ways with Willie Green during the season, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
The Pelicans turned down permission from the Knicks to interview Borrego to be Mike Brown’s top assistant last offseason.
The Pelicans are currently 0-6 to start the season.
