FOX Weather Meteorologist Jane Minar breaks down the forecast for the Northeast as storms march east after producing severe weather in the Central U.S. Sunday night’s threats include potential flash flooding and strong winds as these storms race off the coast.

The cross-country storm carrying severe weather to millions in the central U.S. this weekend stretches into the Northeast on Sunday and Monday, bringing heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding.

On Sunday, the storm, driven by a large dip in the jet stream, will be centered around the Great Lakes. Ahead of it, warm temperatures and abundant moisture will return to the region.

A Level 1 out of 4 flash flood risk is in place for parts of southwestern Pennsylvania, West Virginia and southeastern Ohio from Sunday night into Monday morning.

Rain is expected to stream into the Northeast by Sunday afternoon, with cities like Buffalo, New York, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, seeing moderate rainfall as the weekend comes to a close.

As the system moves eastward, the cold front behind it will settle in, bringing rain to the Interstate 95 corridor for the Monday morning commute.

Strong winds ahead of this system could lead to breezy conditions along the southern New England coast and coastal New Jersey. After last week’s nor’easter brought significant coastal flooding, beach erosion and more coastal flooding are possible for these areas, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
