Paris – “An order will be issued in the coming days, at the initiative of the Minister of Agriculture Annie Genevard, to suspend the import of products containing residues of substances banned in Europe: mancozeb, glufosinate, thiophanate-methyl and carbendazim,” fungicidal or herbicidal products, announced the head of government, Sébastien Lecornu, on X (formerly Twitter).
Contacted by AFP, the Ministry of Agriculture indicated that the order would be published on Tuesday. France must, however, obtain the green light from the European Commission within 10 days, an agreement that the minister hopes to obtain on Wednesday during her trip to Brussels.
Avocados, mangoes, guavas, citrus fruits, grapes and apples “from South America or elsewhere,” but also melons, cherries, strawberries or potatoes will no longer be allowed to enter France or be marketed, listed Mr. Lecornu.
French farmers, affected by the contagious nodular dermatitis crisis, are also mobilized against the signing of the free trade agreement with the Mercosur countries, scheduled for January 12. (January 4, 2026)
