Bratislava – The living space of Slovakia is in the EU, we have no other alternative, but measures must be adopted in the Union so that it is strong and competitive. Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said this in TA3’s Sunday discussion programme In Politics. He also declared that the EU’s chief diplomat Kaja Kallasová must leave her post, TASR reports.
“In the European Union, decisions must be made and we must say – are we going to be a player or will we just watch what is happening around us?” asked Robert Fico. According to him, the Union’s competitiveness is declining and the only thing the EU knows, according to Fico, is to hate Russians.
“There will be shifts in Europe, because the European Union, if it does not come to its senses, is not capable of reacting to anything,” he added.
According to him, the EU has almost 500 million inhabitants, it has enormous economic strength, it could become a superpower. He is critical of Kaja Kallasova.
“We must replace the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Kallasová. I am saying it openly for the first time. She knows very well that I have had many critical objections towards her. We are in a crisis, in an international crisis, Europe is not able to react, we do not have our own international positions. We stammer for 20 hours before some statement is issued on what happened in Venezuela. We need strong leadership not only at the level of nation states,” declared Fico.
If there were within the EU a so-called coalition of the willing for increasing competitiveness or for fighting illegal migration or for reducing energy prices, Fico would support it.
“The living space of the Slovak Republic is the European Union, we have no other alternative. I am only saying that the European Union will be in motion, in great motion, it is a matter of time. And either we will move in that space weakened by internal disputes, uncertain, not knowing what we want, or we will stand there sovereignly,” added the Prime Minister. (11 January)
