Brian Windhorst has emerged as a candidate for ESPN’s 5 PM weekday show time slot that was previously held by “Around The Horn.” The 5 PM time slot is between “NFL Live and “PTI”, which makes it immensely valuable to ESPN.

Windhorst could be a candidate for another show even if ESPN goes in another direction with this time slot. Windhorst’s contract was recently up after the 2024-25 season and it is believed he has signed a new contract even though one hasn’t been formally announced by ESPN as he has continued with his normal duties at the start of the current NBA season.

Windhorst has been with ESPN since 2010 and has become a regular on “Get Up”, “First Take”, “NBA Today” and “NBA Countdown” in addition to “The Hoop Collective” podcast.

Scott Van Pelt and Peter Schrager are also candidates for the spot. ESPN’s Burke Magnus reportedly tried to reunite Van Pelt with his former co-host Ryen Russillo. Russillo recently became a free agent and left The Ringer for his own venture backed by Barstool Sports.

In May, FrontOfficeSports reported that ESPN could replace “Around The Horn” with an insiders show where reporters such as Adam Schefter, Shams Charania, Jeff Passan and Emily Kaplan were mentioned. Windhorst and Schrager would fit the bill as insiders who also have experience floating an entire show.

ESPN has had higher ratings with “SportsCenter” in the time slot since “Around The Horn” went off the air.
