Brentford have turned down an improved transfer offer from Manchester United for Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo.

United’s latest proposal is worth up to £62.5 million, consisting of £55 million up front and a further £7.5 million in performance-based add-ons.

This follows an earlier bid of £45 million plus £10 million in potential bonuses, which was also rejected earlier this month.

The Premier League giants are aiming to reinforce their attacking options, having already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million. However, Brentford are reportedly holding out for a similar guaranteed fee before considering parting ways with their star forward, who has just one year remaining on his current contract.

Mbeumo, 25, enjoyed a standout campaign last season, scoring a personal best of 20 goals and adding nine assists.

His performances have caught the eye of multiple clubs, including Tottenham, where new manager Thomas Frank, formerly in charge at Brentford, is understood to be eager for a reunion.

In addition, Champions League clubs across Europe are believed to be monitoring the winger’s situation.

Should he move to Old Trafford, Mbeumo would reunite with Cameroon team-mate and United goalkeeper Andre Onana.

However, any club signing him will have to plan for his absence during the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off in December. Cameroon face Gabon in their opening group match on 24 December, meaning Mbeumo could be unavailable for up to four weeks of the 2025-26 season.

Mbeumo initially joined Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019, when the club was still in the Championship. Since then, he has racked up 70 goals in 242 appearances and played a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
