Liam Rosenior moved quickly to play down any concerns over Reece James after substituting his captain at half-time during Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League win over Pafos. James made way for Estevao at the interval at Stamford Bridge, a change that immediately raised eyebrows given the defender’s importance and history with fitness issues. Speaking after the match, Rosenior stressed the substitution had been planned in advance. “I’m managing the group as best as I can,” Rosenior said. “We have so many games. Reece is so important. I don’t normally do pre-planned substitutions, but I wanted Reece to play the way I…

President Donald Trump made his pitch to acquire Greenland to international leaders in Davos, Switzerland, Jan. 21, saying for the first time he did not plan for the U.S. to take the land by force. Trump, who talked up his tariff-based negotiation strategy, cited Greenland’s strategic position between the U.S., Russia and China as the main reason he wants to acquire the territory. Retelling United States’ history with Greenland and Denmark, Trump said that during World War II, “We saved Greenland and successfully prevented our enemies from gaining a foothold in our hemisphere.” This much is accurate: After Germany invaded Denmark,…

More than 175 million people are in the path of this sprawling system which is expected to move out of the Southwest by Friday. A key remaining question is exactly how far north this storm will track. A shift in track will determine which states will see heavy snow versus…
The world leaders gathered for the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week are facing a stark and disorienting reality: The United States under President Donald Trump is no longer a reliable or predictable ally. From wielding economy-upending tariffs like a cudgel against nearly every country in the world, to using the U.S. military to overthrow the leader of a sovereign country without bothering to seek authorization at home or abroad, to threatening to seize the territory of some of America’s closest friends and allies, Trump has brazenly discarded the old rule book to pursue what he has…
The IMF estimates Ukraine’s financing gap for 2026–2027 at about $63 billion, but this is based on an optimistic 4.5% growth forecast for this year, much higher than the market consensus. The €90 billion looks sufficient to cover a greater gap, though. Besides, more previously committed funds will come from other sources as well as likely from the new IMF program. The loan is designed to be debt-neutral for Ukraine as it is supposed to be repaid only once the country receives reparations from Russia. Until then, the Russian assets will remain frozen, and the EU will reserve the right…
