Liverpool are bidding to end a stretch of four Premier League defeats when Aston Villa visit Anfield on Saturday.

The reigning champions have lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions following their 3-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup fourth round on Wednesday.

Villa extended their winning league run to four games with a 1-0 home win over Manchester City on October 26 and are unbeaten in seven in the top flight.

Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is available again for Liverpool, having missed three games with a twisted ankle.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, defenders Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni, midfielder Curtis Jones and forward Alexander Isak are out.

“They weren’t all fit from the start [of the season],” manager Arne Slot said of the challenges he has faced with injuries and availability.

“Some players have to play maybe even more than you want them to, which is a risk for them getting injured.

“But it’s just the situation as it is and we have still more than enough good players available to play [twice a week].”

Liverpool starting XI: Mamardashvili; Van Dijk, Konate, Bradley, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Gakpo, Ekitike

Liverpool substitutes: Woodman, Pecsi, Gomez, Endo, Kerkez, Wirtz, Chiesa, Nyoni, Ngumoha

Midfielder Emiliano Buendia scored Villa’s winner at Tottenham but suffered an injury during the game that manager Unai Emery hopes will be short-term.

The Spaniard expects playmaker Youri Tielemans to resume training next week but said wideman Andres Garcia is “some weeks” from a return.

Full-back Matty Cash scored the winner from distance against Man City and signed a contract until 2029 this week.
