Anthony Davis will need to wear protective goggles for the rest of his NBA career, he told reporters on Monday.

“You guys will see me in the Horace Grants,” Davis said. “It won’t be like that. But I will have some protective eyewear for sure.”

Davis confirmed that he had offseason surgery to repair a detached retina in his right eye.

Davis believes he suffered the injury when teammate Daniel Gafford elbowed him in an April 2 game against the Hawks.

Davis, who spent the majority of the summer recovering from the surgery, began participating in 5-on-5 drills in late September.

Davis will be a full participant when Mavs training camp opens on Tuesday.
