Europe must learn from Ukraine and quickly develop a real defense system against drones in the face of the Russian threat, says European Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius.
Brussels – “We must act and we must act quickly” in the field of anti-drone defense, says the European Commissioner for Defense in an interview granted to AFP on Friday.
“We must act by learning all the lessons from Ukraine and by building this anti-drone wall together with Ukraine,” continues Andrius Kubilius.
The commissioner was speaking following a video meeting with about ten EU defense ministers who agreed to create an “anti-drone wall” after a series of Russian air incursions.
Ukraine, which has developed a series of capabilities to detect and shoot down swarms of Russian drones at low cost, also participated and emphasized its desire to be part of the project.
“Ukraine built an acoustic sensor system early in the war, in a very short period of time,” explains Andrius Kubilius to AFP.
“I think we can also do this quite quickly,” he adds, specifying that he wanted Kiev to be “a true partner” in this effort. (September 26, 2025)
