MADRID – The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchezstated this Tuesday that the priority in Ukraine is “to end the war” and “to achieve a just and lasting peace and security” for that country.
Hours after the Extraordinary Council of Foreign Affairs of the EU, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albaresadvocated for maintaining pressure on Russia to “initiate credible negotiations,” Sánchez used the social network X to emphasize that “the Ukrainian people have the support of Spain and the European Union.”
“United in favor of a diplomatic solution that protects the vital security interests of Ukraine and Europe,” wrote the head of the Spanish Executive.
At the community Foreign Affairs summit this Monday, Albares also insisted that what is decided about Ukraine affects Europe, so Europeans must participate in negotiations that must be preceded by “an unconditional and verifiable ceasefire as the first step towards a just and lasting peace.” (August 12)
