Tammy Abraham, the England international striker, is poised to join Turkish club Besiktas after a reported €20 million (£17 million) deal was struck with AS Roma. The move, which has been accepted by the 27-year-old player, looks set to resolve a pressing financial concern for the Italian side.

Roma urgently needs to raise €13 million (£11 million) by the end of 30 June to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) requirements and avoid penalties. The quick agreement between the clubs and Abraham himself means paperwork is now being finalised, with a medical examination expected soon.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano first reported the agreement. This news has also been backed up by major Italian sports outlets like Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset, as well as Turkish transfer specialist Ekrem Konur.

Abraham is returning from a loan spell at AC Milan, where he scored 10 goals and made seven assists in 45 matches across all competitions. Milan recently confirmed they would not make his loan a permanent deal, paving the way for his departure from Roma.

The striker joined Roma in 2021 from Chelsea’s youth academy for an initial fee of €41 million (£35 million), plus about €4 million (£3.4 million) in add-ons. He has also played 11 senior matches for England, scoring three goals.

Interest in Abraham was high from other clubs, including Galatasaray and Zenit St Petersburg. Premier League teams such as West Ham, Everton, and newly promoted Leeds United also showed interest in buying the forward. However, it appears Besiktas have won the race for his signature.

Abraham is reportedly keen on guarantees of being a starting centre-forward, which Besiktas are still working to fully agree upon. If the transfer goes through, he would join former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the Turkish club.
