Anthony Edwards is not actively recruiting Kevin Durant to join him with the Minnesota Timberwolves as the team engages in trade talks with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns may prefer the potential trade package from the Wolves over Durant’s preferred destinations, including the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Miami Heat. However, Durant has expressed that he does not want a trade to Minnesota.
“Talked to some people close to Anthony Edwards,” said Marc J. Spears on Wednesday’s episode of NBA Today. “This is a non-story. He’s in Atlanta working out. He loves his former teammate. He loves his current teammates. Some people close to me said he’s focused on what’s next with this team. And he’s not flying to L.A. to try to convince K.D. anything different.”
Edwards and Durant have maintained a close relationship, with the pair winning a gold medal together in the 2024 Paris Olympics as part of Team USA.
“Spears said this yesterday, I did not see it get picked up out there so I’m glad he’s repeating it,” added Brian Windhorst. “That’s legitimately an important piece of information. Ant Edwards is not recruiting Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant says he doesn’t want to be in Minnesota. The deal is not done. This is not heading towards Minnesota. Obviously things can change. This is not heading like Durant is going to Minnesota. Spears is making it very clear the way Ant is feeling.”
The Wolves are believed to be in a position where they could move forward with a Durant trade with the Suns if they felt confident about his level of commitment to the franchise.
