Redknapp plays down Tottenham return amid growing pressure on Tudor

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has dismissed the likelihood of a return to the club as pressure continues to grow on interim head coach Igor Tudor.

Tottenham’s crisis deepened after a chaotic 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, leaving Tudor with four losses from his first four matches in charge.

The result also extended the club’s losing streak to six games in all competitions, the worst run in their history.

Tudor is still expected to remain in charge for Spurs’ upcoming Premier League trip to Liverpool, though his position has come under increasing scrutiny.

Speaking at the Cheltenham Festival, Redknapp suggested he does not expect to receive a call from his former club.

“I’ve been asked a few times if I’d go back to Spurs and it’s probably not going to happen, is it?” he said.

“Would I go back? Of course I would, but I doubt very much it’s going to happen.

“They’ve got it all on to stay up, it’s going to be hard. I’m looking at their fixtures and Nottingham Forest are playing all right, West Ham United are playing very well, it’s going to be tough for Tottenham.”

The former Spurs boss joked that his attention was currently focused elsewhere.

“My only concern at the minute is The Jukebox Man in the Gold Cup, I’m nothing to do with Spurs any more.”

“They haven’t been in touch, not at all. I hope Spurs stay up and I hope West Ham stay up.”

    Fans call for emergency action

Tottenham’s difficult night in Madrid also saw goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky substituted after just 17 minutes following two costly mistakes.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust described the display as unacceptable in a strongly worded statement.

“Emergency action is needed as right now we are sleepwalking off the edge of a cliff,” the group said.

“Being a Spurs fan has never been so difficult, but supporters will not sit by and watch the club continue to decline.”

“At the very least those in Madrid should have their match tickets refunded.”

Tottenham currently sit just one point above 18th-placed West Ham heading into their difficult trip to Liverpool, with the threat of relegation now a genuine concern for the north London side.
