Rayan Cherki opened the scoring just 11 minutes into the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Manchester City to inflict further misery onto the north Londoners.

The talented Frenchman swept home from just inside the box after Yves Bissouma had been dispossessed by Bernardo Silva on the half-way line.

Silva found Erling Haaland who in turn fed Cherki. The City number 10 took a couple of touches before firing an effort into the far corner.

It was a far-from ideal start for Spurs, who are yet to pick up a top-flight victory in 2026, as pressure continues to mount on manager Thomas Frank.

City, meanwhile, are hoping to reinstate the four-point gap between them and league leaders Arsenal, who thrashed Leeds United on Saturday.

    Spurs confirmed lineup

Frank makes four changes from the midweek win in Frankfurt, with Djed Spence and Kevin Danso left out of the matchday squad.

Yves Bissouma returns while Radu Dragusin comes in for his first start of the campaign.

Dominic Solanke and Conor Gallagher also return with Wilson Odobert and Pape Matar Sarr moving to the bench.

Spurs XI: Vicario, Dragusin, Romero, Udogie, Gray, Bissouma, Palhinha, Gallagher, Xavi, Kolo Muani, Solanke

    Manchester City confirmed lineup

Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo return to the starting team after both sitting out of the midweek Champions League clash with Galatasaray through ineligibility.

Nathan Ake drops to the bench, while Jeremy Doku misses out completely after coming off in Wednesday’s victory.

Rodri comes in for Omar Marmoush, while Ruben Dias, John Stones, Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic and Savinho all remain sidelines through injury.

Man City XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, Ait-Nouri, Rodri, Bernardo (C), O’Reilly, Semenyo, Cherki, Haaland

Stats for Tottenham v Manchester City

    • In the last two seasons, the only ever-present sides to pick up fewer Premier League points than Tottenham (66) are Wolves (50) and West Ham (63), with Spurs’ 31 defeats second only to Wolves (37) in that time. Another defeat would mean Spurs have lost 10+ games for eight consecutive seasons since 2018-19 – in their eight seasons beforehand (2010-11 – 2017-18) this only happened twice.
    • Man City’s Pep Guardiola has lost more league games against Spurs than any other opponent in his managerial career (8).
    • Thomas Frank has won just four of his last 22 home Premier League matches, with an identical record (W2 D3 L6) across his last 11 games with Brentford as in his first 11 with Spurs (W4 D6 L12 overall). Frank has the worst points per game at home of any Spurs boss in Premier League history (0.82).

How to watch Tottenham v Manchester City

The match is broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League. It can be streamed on Sky’s platforms or through Now.
